Broken Borough Councils-Part 4

So, this steadily growing blood-sucking bureaucracy has deprived you of your democratic election and representation rights, given you a behemoth of expense you didn’t ask for, co-signed you to a debt that can’t possibly be paid, given you a bunch of services that you could care less about, and not delivered on many of the things that they are required to do… Do you really want a 40 year old white elephant of a theatre that no one goes to and loses £500K/year? Do you really want a clapped out recreation centre to be razed by them to be replaced by an equally clapped out dysfunctional recreation centre that you aren’t going to use? Just keep remembering, they know what is best for you more than you do… Right??? Maybe not…

Fifth thing wrong: this is simple pure Socialism, you didn’t vote that in…

Now the people doing this to you, are getting paid a lot of money by you to do all this to you. The CEO of Surrey Heath gets paid more than the Prime Minister, as do most of the Council CEOs in the country. And how does that happen? Well, because you let them.  The fix? Petitions to fix each part and demands to get it done by those people you elected to represent you. Otherwise, get used to it, and remember what George Orwell said: some pigs are more equal than others…

Broken Borough Councils-Part 3

So, this whole “providing” situation has gone on swimmingly until it didn’t. Those 90 other things cost really a lot of money, and the central government has been ploughing through your tax money at a frightening pace.  So 5 years ago the Central Government basically said, hey, we will give you the money for what is statutorily required, but the rest is up to you… Central Government speak for “get lost”… You want a theatre? Run it at a profit and keep the money. You want a fitness and recreation centre? Great, run it at a profit and keep the money. And so it is with everything else… Main problem: the local government is totally incapable of running anything, much less at a profit, so there is no money in it.

Time to wake up and smell the coffee…

Third thing wrong: they are using “back door” means to pay for this

In short, the Surrey Heath and every other Council has drastically expanded the government without anyone asking them to, and now is going to demand that you pay for it. Could all the “extra” things be done by someone in the private or charity sectors? In a heartbeat.  So why don’t they let these guys do it? Simple, foundational to their beliefs are:

      1. They know better than you do what you need
      2. To allow things that they are not required to do, to be done by someone else would diminish their power, and it is all about power for people in the government

Fourth thing wrong: they stole your credit, and didn’t even tell you

Question Sound dangerously like Socialism? That’s because it is, and it came through your back door without you ever knowing about it… So, get back to the money, how is it that they are paying for it all? Well that’s the sweet part for them. At Surrey Heath they went out and borrowed £168M to buy retail property that supposedly generates rental income that is supposed to pay the bills for all this? Will it? don’t tell them that retail is dead… So, you have 2 problems here:

      1. They used your credit to borrow the money, you co-signed the loans. Didn’t know that? Well you did…
      2. The properties acquired have no chance to succeed. The result? The 86,000 people of Surrey Heath will have to split the bill between them, roughly £2,000 for every man, woman, and child…

But actually there is a 3rd problem too, the costs keep going up and the revenues are going down, and the investments are bad. Their solution? Borrow more money… The whole thing is just an elaborate Ponzi Scheme…

So what do you need to do: probably get a petition together to demand that they get out of every thing non-statutory, and when they don’t do it? Sue them… But they are banking on you being too lazy and too stupid to really do anything here…

The Winner of the Biggest Shag of the Residents Award This Month: Viv Chapman

So, a couple of years ago, Councillors Vivienne Chapman and Leader Moria Gibson decided to fix one of the 6 Statutory Services that Surrey Heath has to provide. A service that wasn’t broken, so they “fixed it”. They just decided that we the residents needed to be served by a bunch of incompetent morons who can’t get anything right collecting the trash. You have to ask yourself, how hard could it be? And who is going to pay for this shagging? Yes, you guessed it, you and me…

Do they ever miss any pickups in the St. Paul’s Ward for her and Dan Adams? Of course not… So, if your trash isn’t collected, bring it to Viv’s house and have her sort it out for you, her address is on the web site…

Broken Borough Councils-Part 2

In the last post, we looked at the two things you as voters could do that would fundamentally change the system: 1-establish term limits, and 2-change the party leadership stranglehold

Part 2 goes to the heart of the democratic process. So, shortly after the end of World War II, the prescriptions for how Councils were to work was developed and put into law in the UK. So, there are essentially 3 levels of government in the UK: Borough Councils, County Councils, and MPs.  Each has distinctly different functions by mandate from the Central Government. Borough Councils have the following statutory functions:

  1. Taking out the rubbish
  2. Running all parts of planning
  3. Running Licensing (all forms)
  4. Providing housing
  5. Running elections
  6. Assessing and collecting Council Taxes and Business Rates

Second thing wrong: doing what they aren’t chartered to do

And what do Borough Councils do other than this? Loads… As time has evolved, they have simply decided to do things like Parks & Recreation, Meals on Wheels, Citizens Advice, and literally dozens of other things…  All worthy causes, but not as part of the government.  So, statutorily, 6 things, but in reality they do more than 90 things. Why? Because they could, and seized on the idea of doing it without anyone really knowing what it meant to do this. And, stupidly, the Central Government said, hey we’d better help pay for these things… The basic premise was that we as the government know what you need and we will provide it for you. And most amazingly, we the voters went along with that… Why? Because we just that was how it worked, but guess what, that isn’t how it has to work.

There are dozens of organisations, both community and otherwise who would take over all 90 of these things and run them ten times better at a fraction of the cost. And not only that, do we need a third rate theatre that costs a £500K/year loss?

So what do you need to do?

Demand from your Councillor to know exactly why they do anything other than what is statutorily required… They are relying on you to be too stupid and too lazy to do it…

YOU JUST NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU GET TO SAY YOUR LAST GOODBYE…

YOU JUST NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU GET TO SAY YOUR LAST GOODBYE…

You just never know what is going to happen… I’ll start at the end of the story and then move through the events…

Last night I had a large esophageal food bolus obstruction, which is a medical emergency caused by the obstruction of the esophagus by an ingested foreign body. It is usually associated with diseases that narrow the lumen of the esophagus. Normally it is excised in an endoscopic operation (30 mins), and just pushed down into the digestive system to be processed out.  So, 2.5 hours later, the consultant surgeon had removed a huge obstruction/tumour, all of it piece by piece. And of course the 30 minutes allowance of anaesthesia had to be changed mid-operation and  I had to be sent “deeply under”…

It’ll be a couple days to recover from the surgery, especially the “deeply under” part, but what a blessing they found it and dealt with it right there…

So, back up for a few hours…  On the non-stop Chicago to London flight yesterday, I developed terrible Angina chest pains and could not swallow… No matter what I tried, could not shift it. Started running my Cardiogram app, and my pulse was penduluming between 50 and 95 beats/min. The crew saw I was in distress, and slapped a blood pressure monitor on me, it was very high and all over the shop like my pulse… Both they and me thought there was most probably a heart attack, the Angina pain was extreme take-your-breath-away pain. They called ahead and got the doctors at one of the East Sussex hospitals on the line, and they walked them through what to do. There were no doctors on the plane, and they had their defibrillator down and unpacked for use… However, we were still in the middle of the Atlantic with the closest airport in the Azores a long way away, and even I know that you probably can’t keep someone alive with CPR for 2 hours…

You can’t imagine the personal horror of having (or thinking you are having…) a full on heart attack  In the middle of the Atlantic, 4 hours from London… Talk about helpless. I’d talked with Janet just before getting on the flight and she was excited about going out with new friends that night, the flight was on time and I would get there fresh for my meetings, or not… I am always optimistic and looking forward to tomorrow, except this was one of the first situations in a few decades where I could see there was a very good chance there would be no more tomorrows…

I wouldn’t get to tell Janet how much I loved her ever again, I would never get to see Sydney or tell her how much I loved her either, I would never get to see any of my Life.Church team or tell them how much I appreciate and love each of them, or my close friend Art who is in real trouble and I can’t help right now, or Mike and all his battles, or Greg & Pam and Mark & Aubin who I was so looking forward to seeing in America, or all the friends at Hillsong and In the UK. None of them, never, this was it… I deeply sobbed for all the family and people and friends who I have deeply loved and cared for and could only hope they all understood that. And this went on amidst my shattering Angina pain for a couple of hours. People around could see that I was really suffering, did anyone reach out to help? Not one.  The woman sitting next to me even asked to be moved to a different seat. I was completely and totally alone.

In the middle of what was spiralling into a deep depression, I heard a voice saying, “hey, shut up, you aren’t alone, I’m here…” I looked around, “H” is that you? You see I call the Holy Spirit “H”, sometimes “Father H”, because we talk so much, but usually it is just “H”. he said, I already told you to ask in Philippians 4, and you will have peace. So, I said, look H, if my heart is shagged, there isn’t a lot I can do. I thought I was being a pretty good steward on my physical health, but if that was to be it, then that was to be it. I didn’t ask for healing, I didn’t think I needed it, I needed peace, and I got it. Still in shocking pain, but in total peace. I know you are probably thinking, yeah some good that is going to do, you are going to be peacefully dead, but I didn’t care…

Norwegian Airlines got cleared through all the air traffic and went right into Gatwick where the Paramedics were waiting. They came right on the plane and while everyone was getting off, hooked me up to the latest and greatest portable EKG Machines. Then they announce that there is no heart problem, but some thing had gone very wrong food-wise.  they did it a couple more times to be sure, and that was that.

I then got sent home, and got on with things I had to do, still in great pain… Went straight over to see Nell, whom I am renting a room from whilst the house is being refurbished and sold, who is a GP and who got me connected to the hospital and seen right away.  We got in and they, with Nell’s help quickly figured out what this was, got my into the hospital, and operated through the night to get the thing taken out. It was so big that it had to be cut away one bit at a time, which took all that time…

So, sorry for my longest blog ever, wanted to give everyone the blow-by-blow. But I have a question for you? What if this happened to you? Have you told everyone that you love today, just how much you love them? Could you have peace knowing there is a +90% chance you are going to die right there? You need to go on to http://www.live.life,church and watch this new series: “At the movies”.  Or, call/email/test/message me, love to talk about how you too can find peace…
