The Next Chapter for the Yank…

I am now tucking into the first actual political campaign since I got elected 2 years ago. When I got elected, I knew less than nothing about how one would do this. So fortunately my mate Darryl came along and showed me just how to knock on every door in Frimley Green and how to get yourself elected. I’d never done anything like that before and had a whale of a good time. I just loved poking fun at the misguided efforts of those in all the parties, including my own the Conservatives… I was more surprised than anyone when they read out my name at the “count”, and remember thinking, me, really??? A councillor??? A real live politician??? So ok, what do we do now???

So I found out the hard way that some of the players take this election stuff quite seriously. Many require it as an affirmation of their self worth. Really??? Yes really, if you say or do something they don’t like then you are doomed to destruction. So, in the last 2 years several of them have tried that and certainly lived to regret it. It’s been interesting seeing how it works from the inside, particularly as a start-up business person. Business people take winning much more seriously than public servants, not right or wrong, just different…

The candidate in Frimley Green doesn’t want my help, and Denis Fuller asked for it, so I am helping him in the St. Michaels ward of Camberley. So far have met a bunch of new people, and looks to be another great chapter in David’s grand political adventures. For the next month will be blogging about our journey down Denis’s campaign trail… My main job is to make sure no one takes themselves too seriously…
